Product Overview

Most wells are served well by a standard model from our QJ deep well pump table. Some are not. The duty falls between two models, the old pump must be replaced without changing the pipework, or the power supply sets a limit. For those wells we build the pump to order.

What we can make to order

ItemWhy it mattersWhat to tell us
Motor powerA motor matched to the duty, not oversized, and one that suits a limited supply such as a generator or a small transformerFlow and head at the duty point, voltage, frequency and phases, and any power limit
Impeller sizeThe impeller is chosen to land on your duty point, so the pump does not waste energy against a throttled valveFlow and head you need
Hole spacingFlange and bolt-hole spacing made to match your existing riser pipe or fittings, so the new pump bolts straight onHole spacing, number and size of holes, or a photo of the flange with a tape measure across it

When a custom build makes sense

  • Replacing a pump in an existing well where the riser pipe and headworks stay
  • A duty that sits between two catalogue models
  • A site with a weak supply or a generator that cannot start a larger motor
  • A pump of another make that must be matched by duty and connections

What to send us

  1. Well diameter and depth.
  2. Static water level and the level while pumping.
  3. Flow needed, and the head or the pressure needed at the surface.
  4. Power supply: voltage, frequency and phases.
  5. If you are replacing a pump: its nameplate, photos, and the outlet flange and hole spacing.
  6. Water quality: sand, iron, salt or anything corrosive.

Not sure of the head? Our borehole head calculation example shows how to add it up, and the head calculator does the sums for you.

How we work

We check your data against the standard range first. If a catalogue model fits, we will say so, because a standard pump is usually the simplest choice. If it does not, we propose the motor power, impeller and hole spacing, and confirm the details with you in writing before production.

For sandy or corrosive water, read our notes on sand in well water and stainless steel deep well pumps, and tell us about it when you send the duty.

Typical Applications

  • replacement pumps for existing wells
  • irrigation
  • water supply
  • special duties
