When a fluid attacks ordinary rubber diaphragms, PTFE (Teflon) is the answer. It resists almost every strong acid, alkali and solvent in industrial use and tolerates media up to about 150 °C, which is why a PTFE-fitted QBY is specified for the harshest chemical service.
PTFE diaphragms pair naturally with a stainless steel or polypropylene body for a fully corrosion-proof wetted path. Because PTFE is stiffer than rubber, these pumps are often built with a backing diaphragm — worth knowing when you order spares.
