Two everyday headaches with centrifugal pumps — losing prime and burning out when the tank empties — simply do not happen with a QBY. It draws its own prime from a dry line, lifting fluid 5 to 7 metres, and it can stroke away empty for as long as you like without damage.
Why it can do this
The pump moves fluid by flexing two diaphragms back and forth, like a piston pump — it creates suction on every stroke rather than relying on a flooded impeller. With no seal to run dry and no bearing in the fluid, running dry costs it nothing.
That makes the QBY forgiving on sumps, pits and drums that empty and refill, and on lines that are awkward to prime by hand.
