Adhesives and sealants are about the stickiest, most stubborn things you can ask a pump to shift — thick, tacky, and quick to set up if they sit still. That defeats a lot of pump types outright. The diaphragm design copes because it more or less scoops the product through in positive strokes rather than relying on flow past an impeller.
A Wilden built for this moves high-viscosity adhesives, mastics and sealants, self-primes to lift them from a drum, and — with no seal or tight clearance — tolerates the odd bit of cured material far better than a rotary pump would.
