Wastewater is unglamorous but unforgiving: full of solids, abrasive, and the pump often has to sit in a pit and run dry the second the level drops. That combination kills a lot of pumps — and it’s precisely where an air-operated diaphragm pump is at home.
It passes solids that would clog an impeller, it doesn’t mind running dry, and with no electric motor it’s safe and simple to drop into a wet, awkward spot. Cast iron or stainless bodies take the abrasion; the sealless design means there’s no seal for the grit to blast its way through.
