Deep Well Pumps for Village and Town Water Supply

For a village or small town, the well pump is often the only source of water. Reliability matters more than first cost, and the water must stay clean.

What to plan for

• A standby: either a second well with its own pump, or a spare pump kept ready to install
• A tank or water tower, so the pump fills it in steady runs instead of starting and stopping with every tap
• Stainless steel pump parts where the water is aggressive or rust staining is not acceptable
• A control panel with voltage and current meters, dry-run protection and an hour counter
• Clean installation: new gaskets, clean pipes, and a well head sealed against surface water

Maintenance that keeps the supply running

Check the insulation resistance about every two weeks; it should not fall below 0.5 MΩ. Record the current and the flow. A slow fall in flow at the same head is the first sign of wear, and it gives you time to plan a service before the pump stops.
