Cast Iron or Stainless Steel Pipeline Pump? A Quick Decision Guide

| Liquid or site | Our usual suggestion |
|---|---|
| Clean water, cooling water, heating water | Cast iron ISG or IRG |
| Drinking water where rust staining matters | Stainless steel |
| Mild chemicals, process liquids | 304 stainless IHG |
| Chlorides, salt water, stronger chemicals | 316 stainless IHG |
| Corrosive liquid, ordinary surroundings | Stainless casing and impeller on a cast iron base |
| Corrosive surroundings or wash-down | Stainless throughout |
Why not stainless for everything?
It costs considerably more, and for clean water a cast iron pump lasts for years. Spend on stainless where the liquid or the surroundings demand it.
What decides the grade
The chemical, its concentration and its temperature. Send those, and we will check both the casing material and the seal.
