Product Overview

Mining water is abrasive, gritty and full of solids — sump drainage, mineral slurry, wash water and tailings-adjacent flows. It wears pumps hard and clogs the ones with tight passages. A ZWL direct-coupled self-priming sewage pump handles a lot of this duty, especially where you want the pump up on dry ground rather than down a wet sump.

Solids from above the sump

The self-priming design is the appeal on a mine site: the pump sits on the surface and draws from the sump or slurry pit on its own, priming itself after the first fill with no foot valve to jam. That means no dropping a pump into a gritty sump to service it. The non-clog passage clears solids up to about 60% of the port diameter, so gritty, solid-laden water passes through.

Respect the abrasion

Here’s the honest part: mineral slurry is abrasive, and abrasion wears any pump over time. The ZWL handles it, but for heavily abrasive duty, run it at the lower speed (1450 r/min) where you can — slower means gentler wear and longer life — and keep total solids under about 15% of the medium’s weight. For genuinely coarse, high-abrasion tailings at large volume, a dedicated slurry pump may be the better long-term tool; tell us the particle size and abrasiveness and we’ll give you a straight recommendation.
