ZWL Direct-Coupled Self-Priming Sewage PumpZWL Spare & Wear Parts: Impeller, Seal, Wear Ring
Which ZWL pump parts wear, and which spares to keep on the shelf? A practical guide to impeller, mechanical seal, sealing ring and bearings.

Coal prep plants pump abrasive black water full of coal fines and slurry. A ZWL self-priming pump handles it from dry ground. What to consider.

A coal washing (preparation) plant runs on water heavy with coal fines, slurry and grit — the black water that clogs and abrades ordinary pumps. For sump drainage, slurry transfer and thickener-adjacent duty, a ZWL direct-coupled self-priming sewage pump is a practical choice, especially where you want the pump up out of the sump.
Coal-plant water carries fine coal, tailings solids and gritty particulate. The ZWL’s non-clog passage clears solids up to about 60% of the port diameter, so the slurry passes rather than blocking. The self-priming, dry-mounted design lets it draw from the sump or slurry pit on its own — no foot valve to jam, primes itself after the first fill — so nobody’s fishing a pump out of black slurry to service it.
Coal fines are abrasive, so treat this as abrasive duty: run at the lower speed (1450 r/min) where you can for gentler wear, keep total solids under about 15% of the medium’s weight, and expect wear parts to be maintenance items. Cast iron with hardened options suits the abrasion; for continuous high-abrasion slurry at big volume a dedicated slurry pump may serve better — tell us the fines content and we’ll advise honestly.
