ZWL Self-Priming Pump for Dredging & River Silt Removal

Model: ZWL

Moving silt, mud and sand from rivers, canals and ponds needs a pump that passes solids at volume. See how a ZWL self-priming pump fits dredging work.

Product Overview

Clearing silt and mud out of a river, canal, harbour or pond is high-volume, solids-heavy work — exactly the kind of duty that separates a real non-clog pump from a pretender. For shore-side or barge-mounted dredging and desilting, a ZWL direct-coupled self-priming sewage pump in the larger sizes does serious work.

Volume and solids together

Dredging isn’t just mud — it’s mud plus sand, grit, weed and debris, moved by the tonne. The big ZWL models (DN200–DN300) shift up to 800 m³/h, and because passable solids scale with the port, a DN300 clears solids around 180 mm and fibre up to about 1500 mm. So you get high flow *and* the ability to pass the coarse material a riverbed throws up.

Being self-priming, the pump sits on the bank or barge and draws the slurry up on its own — priming itself after the first fill, no foot valve — within its 4.5–5.5 m suction lift. That keeps the unit out of the water and easy to reposition as the work moves along a channel.

A note on abrasion

Silt and sand are abrasive, so for sustained dredging run the pump at the lower speed where possible and keep solids under about 15% of the medium’s weight for steady, low-wear operation. Cast iron is the standard body; hardened options help on heavily abrasive sand.

Specs for dredging duty

  • Flow rate: up to 800 m³/h (DN200–DN300)
  • Passable solids: up to ~180 mm (DN300); fibre up to ~1500 mm
  • Self-priming height: 4.5–5.5 m (bank or barge-mounted)
  • Solids load: ≤15% of medium weight
  • Material: cast iron (hardened for abrasion) or stainless steel

Typical Applications

  • river and canal desilting
  • pond and lake dredging
  • harbour and channel maintenance
  • silt and mud removal
  • sand-laden water
  • flood-channel clearing
