Ceramic slip and glaze are deceptively hard on pumps. Abrasive, high in solids, and quick to settle and pack down the moment flow stops — a nasty mix that grinds through rotating pumps and blocks the ones that can’t cut. Diaphragm pumps handle it because they pass the solids whole and don’t lean on tight, wear-prone clearances.
A Wilden on ceramic duty shifts slip and glaze reliably, soaks up the abrasion with hard-wearing wetted parts, and self-primes to restart even after the slurry’s had a chance to sit. It’s been a fixture in tile, sanitaryware and pottery production for exactly these reasons.
