A standard air-operated diaphragm pump cannot discharge at a higher pressure than the air that drives it. Wilden’s High Pressure series is built to do exactly that. In stainless steel PSG lists three models: the 2 inch H800 and XH800 and the 1-1/2 inch XHS430S, eight builds in total.
What the figures show
PSG’s sample duty for the H800 and XH800 is 76 L/min (20 gpm) against 8.6 bar (125 psig) discharge pressure, using only 2.9 bar (42 psig) of air and 65 Nm³/h (38 scfm). For the XHS430S the sample is 49 L/min (13 gpm) against 4.8 bar (70 psig) discharge with 4.1 bar (60 psig) air. In both cases the pump delivers more pressure than it receives.
H800 and XH800: maximum flow 95 gpm (360 L/min), maximum air pressure 85 psi (5.9 bar), dry suction lift 12 ft (3.7 m)
XHS430S: solids up to 0.25 inch (6.4 mm), 40 to 220 °F (4 to 104 °C)
All three have an aluminum air side and ANSI flanged ports
Where it is used
The classic duty is filter press feed, where pressure builds up as the cake forms. Long discharge lines and spray or injection duties are others. If a standard pump runs but stalls before reaching the pressure you need, a high pressure pump is the next thing to look at.
Points to note
The maximum air supply is lower than on standard Wilden pumps: 85 psi (5.9 bar) for the H800 and XH800.
These are heavy pumps, about 283 lb (128 kg) for an H800 or XH800 and 108 lb (49 kg) for the XHS430S.
The choice is narrow: PSG lists Santoprene builds for all three models and a single PTFE XH800.
Because the gain in pressure costs flow, the right model depends on two numbers together: the flow you need and the highest discharge pressure reached during the cycle.
