The Wilden air-operated diaphragm pump is widely used in the chemical and paint industries for transferring acids, alkalis, solvents, coatings, inks, and resins. Its low shear action ensures that the physical and chemical properties of sensitive materials are preserved during transfer, making it ideal for fine chemical applications.
The pump’s spark-free operation is particularly valuable in paint and solvent handling areas where flammable vapors may be present. The leak-free design prevents costly spills and environmental contamination when handling expensive or hazardous chemicals. With no mechanical seals to fail, the pump provides reliable service in continuous or intermittent duty cycles.
Material selection is critical for chemical service. The pump body can be specified in polypropylene, PVDF, or stainless steel, while diaphragms can be made from PTFE or Wil-Flex rubber for optimal chemical resistance. Temperature limits depend on material selection; Wilden lists up to 177°C (350°F) for an FKM build (XPS830, 08-14814).
