Product Overview

Breweries and distilleries generate a steady stream of awkward waste: spent grain and draff, yeast slurry, trub, and warm, slightly acidic wash-down from tanks and floors. It’s thick, organic, and it doesn’t play nicely with a plain pump. A ZWL direct-coupled self-priming sewage pump is a solid fit for that duty.

Solids and warmth

Spent grain and yeast are exactly the kind of thick, particulate load that blocks ordinary pumps. The ZWL’s non-clog passage clears solids up to about 60% of the port diameter, so the grain, husk and yeast flow through. It also handles warm effluent — up to around 80°C as standard — which matters when hot wort residue or CIP water hits the drain.

Because it self-primes and mounts above the collection pit, it primes itself after the first fill (no foot valve to blind with grain) and stays easy to clean, which a food-grade operation needs.

Material by stream

For general brewery wash-down and diluted effluent, cast iron does the job. Where the stream is more acidic — spent wash from a distillery, CIP acid rinses — the stainless steel body extends tolerance to about pH 2–13 and is the cleaner choice.
