Product Overview

Some sites can’t use a standard motor — anywhere flammable vapours, solvents or explosive dust may be present, an ordinary motor is a spark risk. For those areas, the ZWL direct-coupled self-priming sewage pump is available with an explosion-proof motor, and you’ll see it in the model code as a “B” suffix.

Reading the code

The ZWL naming can carry material and motor suffixes. Take 50ZWL15-30PB: 50 is the port diameter (mm), ZWL is the direct-coupled self-priming sewage pump, 15 is the flow (m³/h), 30 is the head (m), P means stainless steel wetted parts, and B means explosion-proof motor. So a “PB” unit is stainless-bodied *and* explosion-proof — a common combination, since hazardous-area media is often corrosive too.

An explosion-proof ZWL suits duty around:

  • solvent, fuel and volatile chemical handling
  • chemical and petrochemical plant sumps and drainage
  • paint, coating and ink process waste
  • any zone rated for potentially explosive atmospheres.

You still get the same self-priming, non-clog performance — the pump passes solids up to about 60% of the port diameter and fibre up to five times it, primes itself with no foot valve, and handles corrosive media in the stainless build. The explosion-proof motor simply makes it safe to run where a standard motor can’t go.
