YW Series Vertical Submerged Sewage Pump: A Pump That Stays Dry on Top
Model: YW
YW vertical submerged sewage pump keeps the motor above liquid level while the pump end runs in the sump. Available in cast iron, 304/316 stainless steel and fluoroplastic for wastewater, effluent and…
When you walk into a wastewater treatment plant or a factory sump room, you usually see one of two pump types: a fully submersible pump sitting in the wet well, or a long vertical column pump standing on top of the pit with the motor up in the open air. The YW series belongs to the second group. In the pump world, this is called a vertical submerged pump, a vertical sump pump, or a vertical immersion pump — all names for the same basic arrangement: motor above, long shaft down, impeller in the liquid.
Why Would You Choose This Layout?
The whole point of putting the motor above the liquid is simple: you can service it without draining the pit. On a submersible pump, every inspection means lifting the whole unit out of the sewage. On a YW vertical sump pump, the motor, coupling and upper bearing stay dry and easy to reach. For deep pits, continuous-duty service, or corrosive liquids, this matters more than you might think.
YW vertical sump pump structure: motor on top, long column shaft, pump end submerged
How the YW Pump Is Built
The construction is straightforward once you see it:
Motor — standard vertical electric motor mounted on the motor base
Coupling — connects motor shaft to the extended column shaft
Column pipe — the long tube that drops into the sump, carrying the discharge up and protecting the shaft
Mechanical seal — dual acting tandem seal with tungsten carbide faces, designed for over 8,000 hours of continuous operation
Impeller — single-channel or double-channel non-clog design, can pass long fibers up to 5 times the pump outlet size and solid particles up to 50% of the outlet diameter
Pump body and discharge bend — discharge pipe comes out sideways at the mounting plate
Materials for Different Liquids
Not every wastewater is plain water. Depending on what you are pumping, the wetted parts can be specified in:
Cast iron — standard for municipal sewage, rainwater, non-corrosive effluent
304 stainless steel — for food industry, light chemicals, corrosive but non-acidic drainage
316 stainless steel — for chloride environments, coastal plants, paper mills, chemical effluent
Fluoroplastic (PVDF/PTFE lined) — for strong acid, alkali and aggressive chemical liquids where ordinary stainless steel would corrode
Typical Performance Range
The YW series covers a wide range — from small 25mm outlet pumps doing 8 m³/h at 1.1 kW, up to large 500mm outlet units moving 2600 m³/h. The shaft length (submerged depth) is adjustable from 0.5 m up to 7 m, so it can be matched to your actual pit depth rather than the other way around.
Where the YW Pump Is Used
In real projects, we see the YW series specified for:
Municipal wastewater treatment plants and sewage pumping stations
Industrial effluent from chemical plants, paper mills and textile factories
Hospital and hotel drainage where easy maintenance matters
Mining and quarry dewatering with dirty, abrasive water
Construction site and civil engineering drainage
Agricultural biogas tanks and farm irrigation sumps
Underground parking and basement flood sumps
Working Conditions
Standard version handles liquid up to 60°C, specific gravity up to 1.3 kg/dm³, and pH between 5 and 9. For hotter, more corrosive or more abrasive liquids, let us know the exact medium and we will recommend the right material and seal combination.
