Blog316 Stainless Pump Casing on a Cast Iron Base: A Practical Mix
Horizontal pipeline pumps built with a 316 stainless steel casing and a cast iron foot. Why you only need stainless where the liquid touches the pump.

Model: ISG vertical and ISW horizontal pipeline pumps
ISG and ISW share hydraulics but not layout. How the vertical and horizontal pipeline pumps differ in space, pipework, service and noise.
| Inlet / Outlet Diameter | DN25 to DN400 |
|---|---|
| Material | Cast iron, stainless steel on request |

The ISW is the horizontal version of the pipeline pump. It uses the same impellers and casings as the ISG, so a model number gives the same flow and head in either layout. The choice comes down to space, pipework and service.
| ISG vertical | ISW horizontal | |
|---|---|---|
| Floor space | Very small | Larger, on its own base |
| Height | Taller, motor on top | Low |
| Pipework | Straight through the pump | Suction at the end, discharge on top |
| Large motors | Heavy weight high up | Easier to support |
| Service | Motor and impeller lift out upwards | Accessible from the side |
Three horizontal ISW pumps with 7.5 kW motors were supplied for a dust suppression water system, specified for 30 to 60 m³/h of fresh water at 20 m on 380 V. On a site like that the low profile and the solid base of the horizontal pump suit outdoor installation.
Either layout can be picked from the same model list.
