Wilden AODD Pumps vs Centrifugal & Gear Pumps

A Wilden isn’t always the right pump — but there are jobs where it’s the obvious one, and knowing the difference saves money.
A centrifugal pump is cheap and brilliant at moving lots of clean, thin fluid. It struggles the moment the fluid thickens, carries solids, or the suction runs dry. A gear pump handles viscosity well but hates abrasives and dry running, which chew up its close-fitting gears.
The air-operated diaphragm pump wins exactly where those two fail: it runs dry safe, self-primes, passes solids, handles viscous and shear-sensitive fluids gently, and can be built entirely from materials your chemical can’t touch.
So — clean water at high flow, use a centrifugal. Thick, dirty, aggressive, or a suction that empties? That’s Wilden territory. Not sure which side your duty falls on? Describe it and we’ll tell you honestly, even when the honest answer is a centrifugal.
