ZWL Self-Priming Pump for Paper Mills & Pulp Transfer

Fibrous pulp and paper-mill effluent clog most pumps fast. The ZWL self-priming pump is designed to pass long fibre — here’s how it fits paper-industry duty.

Product Overview

If there’s one liquid that exposes a weak pump, it’s paper-mill stock. Pulp is nothing *but* long fibre in suspension, and that’s precisely what wraps around an impeller and strangles an ordinary pump. So when a mill asks us what to use for pulp and process effluent, the ZWL direct-coupled self-priming sewage pump is usually where the conversation starts.

Fibre is the whole design brief

The ZWL was built around passing exactly this kind of material. Its flow passage clears fibre up to about five times the port diameter, and its impeller and volute are shaped so stringy stock flows through rather than winding up on the vane. For a mill moving pulp slurry, mixed suspensions and fibre-laden wastewater, that’s the difference between steady running and constant unclogging.

Because it self-primes and mounts above the tank or pit, it also fits mill layouts where you’d rather not submerge a motor in stock. Fill it once and it re-primes on every start through its axial-reflux chamber — no foot valve to blind with fibre.

Material to match the chemistry

Plain process water and neutral stock run happily in a cast iron ZWL. But papermaking involves bleaching agents, sizing chemicals and swings in pH — and that’s where the stainless steel version earns its cost, holding up across roughly pH 2–13 instead of cast iron’s 6–9. Tell us the stock consistency and the chemistry and we’ll steer you to the right body.

Range for fibre-laden stock
