You’ll notice ZWL models are offered at two motor speeds — 1450 r/min (4-pole) and 2900 r/min (2-pole) — and it’s not an arbitrary choice. The speed changes how the pump behaves, how long it lasts, and which is right for your liquid. Here’s the practical version.

What speed does

For a given pump, running faster (2900 r/min) generally gives more head and flow from the same frame — which is why higher-duty points in the range often run at 2900. Running slower (1450 r/min) is gentler: less impeller tip speed means less wear and longer life, especially on abrasive or solid-laden media.

You can see this in the range itself. Smaller pumps chasing head often run at 2900 r/min; the big high-flow units (DN200–DN300) run at 1450 r/min, moving huge volume at moderate head with lower wear.

How to choose

  • Clean-ish media, need head from a small pump → 2900 r/min is efficient and compact.
  • Abrasive or heavy-solids media (slurry, grit, sand, mining, coal) → 1450 r/min where you can — the slower speed dramatically reduces abrasive wear and extends pump life.
  • High volume at moderate head → 1450 r/min, which is where the big models naturally sit.

A good rule of thumb: the dirtier and more abrasive the liquid, the more you’ll thank yourself for the slower pump. If you tell us the medium and duty point, we’ll pick the speed that gives the best balance of performance and life.
