Here’s a common one. The pump runs fine, then stops halfway through a stroke and just sits there. Shut the air off, turn it back on, and it starts again, until the next time. Before you order anything, rule out the boring causes: wet or dirty compressed air, supply pressure that has dropped, a muffler clogged with ice or debris.

If the air is clean, the pressure is right and it still stalls, the air valve assembly is the next suspect. That’s the 15-2000-07, position 1 on the T15 parts list. It sits on the center block and flips the compressed air between the two chambers, which is what makes the diaphragms move back and forth. It does that on every stroke for as long as the pump runs, so sooner or later it wears or gets gummed up.

A full clean will sometimes bring a sticky one back. If the sealing surfaces are scored, or the pump keeps venting air out of the muffler when it isn’t moving fluid, save yourself a second teardown and replace it.
