Custom Single-Phase Sewage Pump for a Sewage Pit in Dubai

A customer in Dubai contacted us about draining a sewage pit. The requirements were clear, but they did not match any standard pump: a large flow of 90 m³/h, a head of only 7 m, a 150 mm outlet, and a motor that runs on single-phase 220 V, 50 Hz. We built the pump to order and delivered it to the customer’s door in Dubai.

Why no standard pump fitted

Each requirement on its own is common. Together they are not. Pumps with a 150 mm outlet and a flow of around 90 m³/h normally run on three-phase power, while single-phase sewage pumps are usually small units for low flows. This customer needed both: the volume and outlet size of a larger pump, and a motor that works on a single-phase supply.

The low head is what makes it possible. Lifting 90 m³/h by 7 m needs a hydraulic power of only about 1.7 kW, so a 3 kW single-phase motor can drive a pump of this size, as long as the impeller is matched to the duty instead of taken from a standard three-phase model. That is why the whole pump was built as a custom unit rather than a modified catalogue pump.

One point we flagged for installation: a single-phase 3 kW motor draws 16.8 A, much more than a three-phase motor of the same power. The supply cable and the circuit breaker on site have to be sized for that current.

Packing and delivery

• Packed in one export wooden case, 610 x 380 x 250 mm, net weight about 40 kg, gross weight about 50 kg.
• Shipped by sea, door to door, with customs clearance, duties and taxes included, so the customer only had to receive the pump.
• The commercial invoice and packing list carried the HS code (8413.70) and country of origin for customs clearance in the UAE.
